1. About You

🔒 Private · Your full name is seen by our review team only during the assessment process. If approved, only your first name and initial will appear publicly alongside your reviews — your full name is never displayed on HeyHalaal.

🔒 Private · Used to notify you of your application outcome within 2–3 business days. If approved, this email is also used to match and retrospectively badge any reviews you have already submitted on HeyHalaal with the Certified Reviewer tick.

🔒 Private · Completely optional. Only used if our team needs to follow up with you directly about your application. Your number is never shared with businesses, third parties, or displayed anywhere on the platform.

🔒 Private · Helps us understand the geographic spread of our reviewer network. We aim to have certified reviewers covering key areas in every province so that communities nationwide are fairly represented on HeyHalaal.

🔒 Private · Used to map our reviewer network by province and ensure balanced coverage across South Africa. Your province is not displayed on your public reviewer profile.

2. Your Halal Dining Habits

🔒 Private · Helps us understand how actively you dine at halal establishments. More frequent diners tend to have a broader frame of reference for comparing food quality, service, and halal compliance across different venues and certification standards.

🔒 Private · Helps us assess your familiarity with halal standards. Longer awareness typically indicates deeper knowledge of certification requirements, cross-contamination risks, and the difference between certified and community-verified establishments.

🔒 Private · Tells us which South African halal certification bodies you are familiar with. This helps us understand the depth of your knowledge around halal certification standards — particularly relevant when reviewing businesses that display specific body certifications at their premises.

3. Your Voice

🔒 Private · Seen by our review team only during assessment. A food blog or social presence is not required but gives us insight into your existing reviewing style and audience. If a public reviewer profile page is launched in a future update, we may display your handle there — but only with your explicit permission at that time.

🔒 Private · This is the most important part of your application. Our team reads every motivation carefully to assess your genuine commitment to honest, balanced, and community-focused reviewing. Applicants who demonstrate a real passion for halal food and a desire to help the community make informed choices are most likely to be approved.

4. Sample Review

Write a review for a halal restaurant you have visited recently. This helps us assess your writing style, attention to detail, and ability to give balanced, useful feedback to the community.

🔒 Private · Used purely for assessment purposes. Choose a restaurant you have visited recently and can write about with confidence and specific detail. This sample will never be published on HeyHalaal — it is only seen by our moderation team during your application review.

🔒 Private · Our team evaluates your ability to write clear, balanced, and genuinely helpful reviews. We look for specific detail about food quality, halal assurance, service, and atmosphere — not just a rating. Strong sample reviews mention the certification body displayed at the premises and highlight both positives and areas for improvement. Not posted publicly. 100–500 characters.

6. Reviewer Terms, Code of Conduct & Conditions

HeyHalaal Certified Reviewer Programme — Terms & Conditions

1. Voluntary Participation & No Remuneration
Participation in the HeyHalaal Certified Reviewer Programme is entirely voluntary. No payment, remuneration, compensation, reward, gift, or benefit of any kind is provided or implied for any review submitted, whether before or after certification. Reviewers may not solicit or accept any form of payment from businesses in exchange for reviews.

2. Eligibility
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Applicants must be genuine consumers of halal food products and/or services in South Africa. Employees, owners, directors, family members, or close associates of a business may not review that business unless the conflict of interest is fully disclosed in the review.

3. Code of Conduct
Reviewers must submit honest, accurate, and impartial reviews based solely on their genuine personal experience. Reviews must not contain offensive, derogatory, defamatory, racist, sexist, or otherwise harmful language or content. Reviewers must not make unsubstantiated claims about a business, its owners, staff, or products. Reviews must not be used to promote competing businesses, third-party services, or for any commercial or marketing purpose. Reviewers may not submit more than one review per business per distinct visit. Reviewers must not engage in review manipulation, coordinated reviewing campaigns, or reciprocal review arrangements.

4. Conflict of Interest Declaration
Reviewers must disclose any personal, professional, or financial relationship with a business before or within the review. HeyHalaal reserves the right to remove any review where a conflict of interest is identified or suspected, at its sole discretion.

5. Content Ownership & Licence
You retain ownership of the original content you submit. By submitting a review, you grant HeyHalaal a non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable, worldwide licence to publish, display, adapt, translate, and distribute your review content across the HeyHalaal platform and related marketing materials, without further consent or compensation. HeyHalaal may anonymise or edit review content for clarity, length, or compliance with these terms.

6. Moderation
All reviews — including those submitted by Certified Reviewers — are subject to moderation prior to publication. HeyHalaal's moderation team reserves the right to approve, edit, withhold, delay, or reject any review at its sole and absolute discretion, without obligation to provide a reason. Moderation decisions are final. Reviewers may not appeal a moderation decision.

7. Right to Remove Reviews
HeyHalaal may remove any published review at any time, without notice and without obligation to provide a reason. Grounds for removal include, but are not limited to: violation of these terms, complaint from a listed business, discovery of a conflict of interest, legal obligation, or platform policy update. Business owners may report a review for assessment; final removal decisions rest solely with HeyHalaal.

8. Right to Decline or Remove Reviewer Accounts
HeyHalaal reserves the right to decline any application to the Certified Reviewer Programme at its sole discretion, without providing a reason. HeyHalaal may suspend or permanently remove a Certified Reviewer account at any time, without notice and without obligation to provide a reason. Removal of a reviewer account may result in the removal of all reviews submitted under that account.

9. Review Expiry
Reviews represent a consumer's experience at a specific point in time. To maintain relevance and accuracy for the community, reviews older than 36 months may be archived or removed in a future platform update. HeyHalaal will provide reasonable notice before implementing any expiry policy.

10. No Liability
Reviews represent the personal opinion of the individual reviewer and do not represent the views, positions, or endorsements of HeyHalaal, Jibraeel Management Consulting CC, or any halal certification body. HeyHalaal accepts no liability for the accuracy, completeness, or legal consequences of any review published on the platform. Reviewers accept full and sole responsibility for the content they submit and indemnify HeyHalaal against any claim, loss, or liability arising from that content.

11. Privacy & POPIA
Personal information collected during the application process is processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and HeyHalaal's Privacy Policy. Your full name will not be displayed publicly. Only your first name and initial will appear on approved reviews, unless you select the anonymous option. Your email address and contact details will not be shared with any third party without your explicit consent, except where required by law.

12. Amendments
HeyHalaal reserves the right to amend these terms at any time. Continued participation in the programme following notice of any amendment constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Applications are reviewed within 2–3 business days.
